Japan is known for many things: electronics, fashion, lack of space, sushi and so much more. Of it’s many attributes, the one that stands out most in my mind are the people, in fact, it’s the amount of people that overwhelms me. Standing at the busiest intersection in the world in Shibuya, one of the 23 wards of Tokyo, is an exhilarating, surreal experience. Over 1 million pedestrians pass through this crossing every day. My wife, sons and their girlfriends had to pass through it several times just to experience it and then we went to the top floor of a building with huge window panes just to get an aerial view.
The sight of so many people day after day can either make you want to escape or make you want to press in to find out about the lives of them. During our brief stay we met students, bar owners, inn-keepers, and several people who had lived in America.
Have you thought about God’s creation lately: How beautiful, vast, calming and fascinating it is? When you think of God’s creation, you might visualize our countries’ oceans, forests, valleys, mountains and fields. But it’s important to remember that the best of creation, the crown of creation are people. People are the best that God made. It only makes sense that they are. God only died for people, not any other part of his creation, not even for angels. That says something about both us and the God who died for us.
Being in Tokyo reminded me of how much God loves his creation since he made so much of it and made it so well. It reminded me that he saved the best for last. On the final day of creation he made man and woman. So when you and I find ourselves tired of the crowds, the neighbors, the streams of people in every sector of life, remember that they are the best thing that God ever made. God always makes room for more people. So should I. So should you.
